  The Judiciary in Brazil:

  The Judiciary in Brazil comprises public bodies that are responsible for fulfilling the constitutional mandate of jurisdiction. It consists of five key entities: the Supreme Federal Court (STF), the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), federal regional courts and judges, military courts and judges, as well as state courts and judges within the Federal District and territories.

  The STF and other superior courts—such as the Superior Labor Court (TST), Superior Electoral Court (TSE), and Superior Military Court (STM)—are situated in Brasília and serve nationwide. The STF comprises 11 justices tasked primarily with upholding the constitution. The STJ includes at least 33 justices. The TST consists of 27 justices specializing in labor matters. The TSE is comprised of 7 justices responsible for electoral issues. The STM has a composition of 15 justices.

  The judicial authority at the state level is exercised by the Courts of Justice in addition to local jurisdictions that encompass a limited number of municipalities, where no city possesses an independent judiciary. According to federal and state constitutions, only the Union and federative units are authorized to have a judiciary.
